Offensive Advertisement of the Week (4-21)

No, I haven't. Thanks for asking, though!
In this magazine advertisement for 5 Gum, "Stimulating your senses" has been taken to a whole new level. What does bobsledding… or being naked...
have to do with gum? Nothing. But naked will always get your attention! Though, I have never seen naked sell gum! This ad is one of the best examples of shock value distracting you from the actual product being sold.
They try to make the act of breath freshening by way of gum synonymous with an experience, a trippy and slightly suggestive one at that. If you've had 5 Gum, you'll notice they've revolutionized the packaging to be sleek, more like something very special or expensive like cigarettes or fine point markers, rather than the disposable product that it actually is. And with the mesmerizing font, this gum just might drive me to do something I normally wouldn't do. Is it time to take up naked bobsledding?
What do you think about using this approach to sell gum?

Stride Mega Mystery
Have you seen this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzLkRr2g3aA Men riding ostriches keep the Mega Mystery a secret. I would have loved to have been at that brainstorming session.
I think it's brilliant! Being
I think it's brilliant! Being on the side of the advertisers and designers, we're always pulling to market certain things to certain groups of people. In 5's case, it's upscale, trendy and seems to be geared to the 20-35 year old age group. You feel cool holding that package. Plus the design work is beautiful.
Let's not forget the suggestive package in the bottom right corner of the ad. Wrigley's is showing the other gum companies that they know they have a cool product, so everybody else should watch out.
Never Thought About That!
OMG, I never thought about that! What DOES gum have to do with being naked. Weird.
orbit
If you've ever seen the orbit commercials, they state they can clean up you're mouth. but can they really keep a mouth filled with potting soil clean?
