The Band

Sunset West is more than just a band, it’s a family...literally. Brother-sister duo Jill and Mark Jayne have combined their love of music into the loud, energetic rock giant now known as Sunset West. Hailing from Pittsburgh, PA and now based in New York City, Sunset West has taken the world by storm. UK rock magazine Black Velvet says “their confident and upbeat knack not only overshadows blank slates like Avril Lavigne, but also puts them to shame, storybook endings and all.”
Sunset West has sold over 10,000 CDs of their original music: Hope on the Horizon released in August of 2005, The Promise Land released in June of 2007, and Rock on State for Penn State University in August of 2007.
Sunset West has toured all over North America rocking everything from back yards to three straight summers on The Vans Warped Tour. Known by their fans for their energy, quirkiness and themed concerts, their sophomore album release party, Punk Rock Prom, caught the attention of American Idol producers. They debuted in October 2007 on The Next Great American Band on FOX.
Sunset West has been featured on compilation CD’s which have been distributed worldwide, and has shared the stage with notable national acts like Mayday Parade, Cartel, Paramore, New Found Glory, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Wheatus, Punchline, Lorene Drive, Never Heard of It, The Matches and many others.
Sunset West can also be found on another stage: teaching about nutrition through rock music. Jill Jayne is also a registered dietitian and holds her bachelor’s and master’s in nutrition; Mark Jayne holds his bachelor’s in communications. After spending their summers on The Warped Tour with fans fueled by energy drinks, fast food, and soda, the Jayne’s united their respective skill sets in nutrition and communications and combined love of music to create a music-based experience about media literacy called I Will Not Be Bought. Their interactive performance focuses on the influence of advertising on body image, nutrition, substance abuse, and peer pressure, touring middle and high schools throughout the country. With the launch of their interactive web community, they are encouraging young people to contribute to their conversation of critical consumption to improve eating habits, body image, and self-esteem.
Sunset West is vibrant, fun, but most of all distinctive. Their unique approach to education through entertainment has landed them in the press for more than their music.
